  • If you’ve never been to counselling before, you’re not alone! We all had to begin once, so I understand how nerve-wracking the process can be to begin with.

In our first session, I will take a few details, and then ask you to tell me about yourself, as well as any issues that have brought you to seek counselling.

Don’t worry! You aren’t expected to have all the answers - you’re here for a reason, and I’m here to help guide you through, supporting you in the moment, and helping you to find your own way.

  • While the lines between the two often become blurred as therapy progresses, there is a difference:

    • Counselling is often seen as helping someone through something specific - perhaps support during a difficult time in their lives, perhaps an issue that needs addressing in the here-and-now.

    • Psychotherapy refers to a longer term, explorative treatment where we try to understand ourselves, our motivations, our history and the things that make us who we are.

  • Yes. Everything we discuss in the therapy room (or online) is completely confidential. However, I am required by law to disclose information only in the following circumstances:

    • If I believe you pose a risk to yourself or to someone else, or

    • If I believe that the welfare of a child is at risk

I adhere to all relevant European GDPR legislation to keep your information private.

  • The Silver Fern is a powerful symbol of growth, guidance and resilience. In nature, its fronds unfurl gently and imperfectly - a reminder that growth is not always symmetrical or smooth, but it’s always meaningful.

In Maori tradition, silver fern leaves were laid on forest paths, so their pale undersides could reflect the moonlight and help travellers find their way. I see counselling in a similar light - a process of finding direction on uncertain and often dark paths.

We all have the capacity for growth and renewal, even after periods of darkness. Silver Fern Counselling is about walking that journey together - toward clarity, strength and understanding.
